The random ramblings and general goings-on of Briz
General lunchtime update...

Friends Reunited (FRU) - it works!

I logged onto the site a couple of days ago and found out someone had sent me an Ecard through the Ecard system on FRU. It was sent in March last year... I was intruged... It was from a friend from my childhood (yes... some still might think I'm still a child at 24!) days. Roberta Irvine... wow. I was 11 / 12 when I'd last saw her. We where very good friends back then and where kind-of going out... as much as an 11 / 12 year old can (well it was different all those years ago.. I was totally innocent!) Anyways I have now gotten back in touch with her. So that's my testimonial to FRU! Even though thats the only person that contacted me through it, it's free... so what can you lose. Get yourself listed!

Also another few interesting Engadget links....

Woooo artifical eyes! Maybe someone will fix mine... at almost -10 in both eyes I might as well be blind without my glasses

Europeans see artificial eyes by 2010
[clip from engadget.com]
Claude Veraart, a Belgian scientist working on a pan-European effort to develop artificial retinas, says that a prototype has been implanted into two patients. The device works by relaying signals from an eyeglass-mounted digital camera to the optic nerve. According to reports, 15 teams of researchers are working on related projects throughout Europe, and the European Commission expects a commercial version to be available by 2008 or 2010.

The exhaust flamethrower kit
[clip from engadget.com]
Granted, it may be dangerous not only for the driver, but, say, for the many pedestrians who cross past the back of a car during rush hour, but this is the closest you’re ever going to get to having a Batmobile!

Interesting engadget updates....

OK We're doomed... vaccuum cleaners are going to rule the world!!!

Dyson’s new vacuum cleaner orders its own replacement parts
[clip from engadget.com]
Dyson’s coming out with a new vacuum cleaner that can call in to order its own spare parts when it breaks.

You dial a special number at Dyson HQ and hold your phone up the vacuum cleaner. It’ll then use secret crazy robotic vacuum cleaner code to signal to the engineers back at Dyson what’s wrong and what replacement parts it needs, along with its model details and serial number so it can have the parts automatically shipped off to you.

So what have I done......

Nothing interesting really. Working on a few interesting sites. Done some random admin systems for sites (don't really want to talk about work stuff here.... it's not really interesting!)

Hmmm.. interesting articles I've seen recently...

Smart holograms to be used as medical sensors
[clip from engadget.com]
A company with roots in Cambridge University is working to develop “smart holograms” that can be used as sensors to detect everything from blood-glucose levels to food freshness.

NTT’s RedTacton enables “human area networks”
[clip from engadget.com]
While the idea of a “human area network” that works by using weak electrical fields on the surface of the body does creep us out a little, NTT’s RedTacton system based on the concept does have a certain appeal.

More from Engadget, and the various other sites I visit when I find more interesting stuff....
Well what have I been up to today.... hmmm... Lewpen took me to lunch, yet another harvester (only £3 for a full meal, roast beef, gammon and turkey plus whatever veggies you want) and as usual I was well and truly stuffed!

Spent most of my day next door at MFS Reprographics sorting out the new PC which I installed XP on a couple of days ago, connecting it to the printer and old Windows 3.11 box. What a nightmare that was, but it's done now and yet another thing I know how to do!

That’s it really, did some work on Waterless Detailers site, just adding in some images and Press Releases.

Not sure what I am up to tonight, think I might go home, watch some TV, invite Claire round, play on the playstation. Might drag Lewpen around for a few games of Wipeout.

Nothing else really to say today so I'm off to finish off my work (as I spent most of the day out of the office!)
Well, I've really put alot of content onto this page.... I must get my backside in gear and keep this up to date... need to make time!!!! :)
Phew, finished our office server move at last, was just looking through our logs and found out that it has taken me since Nov 04 - That’s a whole 2 months! Ouch, I never thought it was going to take me that long! Oh well, at least it's done now. At least I have more experience in planning stuff now.. that was a huge task for me to plan. Over 80 domains with hosting and email, over 300 email accounts + another 100 odd domain names which I needed to make sure we had control of. Well, all done! :)
Well this is for all my family who tend to say I don't keep in touch enough, so just come here and have a read of what I've been up to (not that it's interesting!)
